Ashvagandha plant is best known for its tonic, antistress and vigour- and vitality-enhancing properties. The root of the plant is used as such in powder form or in combination with other medicinal plants in various kinds of formulations mentioned in official formularies and pharmacopoeia of India. A lot of scientific work has been done on Ashvagandha proving it to be useful as an immunomodulator, antioxidant and adaptogenic.

Uses – Ashvagandha powder is useful in malaise, debility, impotence, neurasthenia, mental stress and fatigue.

Ashwagandha (अश्वगंधा)

अश्वगंधा की गंध (smell) घोड़े (ashwa) जैसी होती है इसलिए इससे अश्वगंधा कहते है। यह आयुर्वेद में सबसे महवपूर्ण जड़ी–बूटी है। इसका प्रयोग अनेको बीमारियों में करा जाता है। जैसे– संधिशोथ (Arthritis), कब्ज (constipation), अनिद्रा (insomnia), त्वचा की स्थिति (skin conditions), तनाव (stress), गैस्ट्रोइंटेस्टाइनल मुद्दों (gastrointestinal issues), मधुमेह (diabeties), तंत्रिका टूटना (nervous breakdown), बुखार (fever), सांप–काटने (snake-bites), स्मृति हानि (memory loss) आदि।

उपयोग–

1. अश्वगंधा में कैन्सर (cancer) से लड़ने की क्षमता होती है। यह कीमोथेरपी (chemotherapy) के प्रभाव (side effects) को कम करती है। यह tumor के cells मारने की क्षमता होती है।
2. अश्वगंधा एंटी–इंफलामेट्री (anti-inflammatory), एंटी–ऑक्सीडेंट (anti-oxidant) गुण होती है। जो कि हृदय परेशानी (heart problem) के लिए अच्छा होता है।
3. अश्वगंधा चिंता (anxiety) को दूर करता है। यह शारीरिक व मानसिक दोनो की स्वास्थ्य (health) के लिए अच्छा होता है।
4. अश्वगंधा न्यूरोमस्क्यूलर समन्वय (neuro-muscular coordination) को अच्छा करता है।
5. अश्वगंधा में हेमेटोपोएटिक गुण (hematopoietic properties) होती है जो कि आरबीसी कोशिकाएं (RBC Cells) को बनाने में मदद करती है जो कि एनेमिया को दूर करता है।
6. अश्वगंधा थायराइड ग्रनिथ (thyroid gland) से निकलने वाले अतिरिक्त होर्मोन को निकालने से रोकता है।
7. अश्वगंधा याद्दाश (memory) को बढ़ाता है तथा उसे शक्ति power प्रदान करता है।
8. अश्वगंधा को पानी या दूध के साथ प्रयोग कर सकते है। दूध अथवा पानी गर्म होना चाहिए। अश्वगंधा को दूध या पानी में 1 चम्मच मिला ले। इसमें शहद या चीनी भी मिला सकते है। इसे ख़ाली पेट नहि लेना चाहिए।
